
Mary Adelaide Moore was first a mistress and then the second wife of Charles T. Yerkes. She was the inspiration for the character of Aileen Butler in the Dreiser’s trilogy.

Mary was born in 1857 (20 years younger than her husband.) She became Charles Yerkes’ mistress and later married him on September 23rd, 1881 becoming Mary Adelaide Yerkes after he managed to obtain a divorce from his first wife.
